Exton Estates – Havant

Exton Estates and Clowes

Project Summary

Burrows Graham have been appointed by Exton Estates working on behalf of the fund Clowes Development to assist with the redevelopment of the 8.3Ha former landfill site in Havant. At planning stage, a two unit and single option scheme have been considered. Following recent planning approval, works are due to start to progress with an initial enabling phase to remove excess black bag waste from the site and create level plateaus ready for the main development works. Given the poor underlying ground conditions, the main building units will be piled and have a suspended slab, with key external yard and access road areas being supported on CMC grouted columns and load transfer platform to reduce the risk of ongoing settlement under operational loading. Site surface water drainage was approved to discharge unrestricted into the Hermitage Stream and a new pumped foul water connection into the existing offsite sewer had to be approved with Southern Water.

Key Engineering Challenges

  • Pumped FW outfall needed to cross existing bridge and along the Highway.
  • Cut and Fill had to consider Black Bag removal.
  • Boundary retaining walls required to accommodate significant level differences.
  • Large screening earth bunds designed with reinforced geotextile
